Harborside Farms Goats
Why goats you ask?
Well there are a few reasons that Harborside Farms has goats. To start off the goats eat weeds! How cool is that!
Most times people tend to use chemical to get rid of weeds that are a problem on their land, easy and immediate but not the choice of stewards of the land.
It is so important to manage your land properly and without chemicals. Goats help us to do that.
Beside the fact that goats can and do prevent forest fires. They do this by eating the bottom 8 feet of growth in the forest floor and with proper management the goats can encourage new growth and help heal the land.
At Harborside Farms, the goats graze with the whole herd and eat the leafy spurge and weeds. They love the leafy growth and under brush.
Another reason for having a goat herd is for the meat. Selling goats off the farm to people who want and love goat meat. Respecting other people's cultures and religion.
Beside being so very friendly and just a joy to have running around the farm, our goats are here to stay. It seems that we have provided a lot of entertainment throughout the years that our girls have been in school. We've been approached by the school every year asking us if we would host a farm tour directly because of the goats. Kids love Kids.
We have also hosted adult tours and often have visitors just to see the goats and animals on the farm.
